Theology is the study of God or the supernatural. It is also one of the branches of Christianity that describes the relationship between the believer and God in a way that can be understood by man.
Theology has been there since time immemorial and has undergone various changes
with respect to various theological systems. The most popular theological system which has been followed from the time of the Apostles to the present day is known as Reformed theology.
Some denominations do not accept the doctrine of Theology because they feel that it violates the foundation of their own religion. This is how Reformed theology has been condemned as being an unacceptable religion to many denominations.
Before it was reformed, Reformed theology had many variations and was quite fragmented. Reformed theology was in place for several centuries before the Protestant reformers took a firm stand against it.
The study of theology differs from person to person. There are those who have it completely, while there are others who only have some kind of a study of theology. Even the Catholic Church has slightly different forms of theology.
During the time of the Council of Trent, Christianity had split into various denominations. The main reason behind this was the division among Christians. It is also referred to as the Great Schism.
Theology had for so long been a problem for the followers of Christianity.
Some people believed that they were following a divine truth and others had no idea as to what the truth was about. Theologically speaking, theology is not so easy as one may think.
Different books have been written on the subject of theology and each has its own opinions about theology. Many different scholars have also contributed to the study of theology.
Most Christians however, are not comfortable with the humanistic approach of theology. The reason for this is because the humanists believe that human beings can understand God and also that God himself is comprehended by the human mind.
Christian theologians believe that we can and must know God and that his word in its true sense cannot be understood by human beings. Christianity is a message of love and if we fail to find the meaning in it then we will be lacking something that is important to us.
True theology does not require human beings to have a more spiritual approach but rather, it should provide us with a very rational method of approaching matters and applying the teachings of God to our lives.
- Theology is only effective when the mind is controlled by the Holy Spirit and not the intellect.
- When it comes to theology, the Holy Spirit has given us the power to know and understand the heart of God.
- Therefore, theology is a necessary component of any theology based faith.
